Evangel Ministries, Inc. aka The Family 91.9, 91.5, 88.5 FM Announces New Chief Executive Officer

Evangel Ministries Inc. aka The Family, a Christian Broadcasting radio network, serving the nonprofit sector since 1969, has announced the selection of Sonia Barham as its new chief executive officer.  Sonia will fill the vacancy created by Rick Reyer’s departure in December 2015.   The selection was made after a regional search and selection process.

“We are very pleased to announce Sonia as our new CEO,” reported Leroy Jonas, IV, Evangel Ministries Board President. “Sonia will bring leadership and creativity to the Family and a deep sense of commitment to our listeners and donors in Wisconsin.  She has served nonprofits at all program, fundraising, executive and leadership levels, and has a breadth of innovative perspective and experience.”

Sonia’s resume includes over 20 years of leadership in planning, administration, fundraising, accounting, communications and marketing.  She has a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries from The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, CA.  Sonia is a graduate of Leadership Fox Cities, a program sponsored by the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce.  In 2015, Sonia completed the Social Innovation Leadership Experience (SILE) Program, a program sponsored by the J.J. Keller and U.S. Venture Foundations.  SILE is an executive education program for non-profit leaders and change-oriented stakeholders that focuses on issues and frameworks for the solution-minded. SILE emphasizes the mindset and application of successful social entrepreneurship: measurable, scalable and sustainable approaches to solving social problems that promote autonomy, new markets and equitable commerce.

Most recently Sonia has served as executive director for SOAR Fox Cities, Inc. in Appleton WI, a local nonprofit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities.  At SOAR, her leadership led to successful implementation of opportunities to increase effectiveness of board activities, financial stability, marketing, programming, capacity of service, staff development, and community impact.

Also in 2015, she led SOAR Fox Cities, Inc. through a re-brand (formerly Arc Fox Cities) with a new logo and website which led the agency to win the 2015 Exemplary Marketing award through the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce.

Sonia is very involved in the community, she currently serves the City of Appleton as a Transit Commissioner, she is the vice-chair for the Fox West Y in Greenville, WI.  Sonia serves as an impact panel volunteer for the United Way Fox Cities and as a volunteer for the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative Executive Directors Forum sponsored by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley. Sonia is a Rotarian and serves as the Co-Chair of the Rotary Youth and Service Education committee for the Rotary Club of Appleton. When not at work, she is involved at Appleton Alliance Church by serving as a youth group leader to high school girls.

“I look forward to serving families in Central and East-Central Wisconsin through a contemporary and versatile communications platform” remarks Sonia.  “Helping families build healthy relationships with God and one another is not only The Family’s mission, but one that we foster at home as well.”
