~ MIX apples for the perfect blend of flavor and texture, sweet apples with tart, apples that hold their shape with those that cook down. Macintosh, Gala and Jonathon make good sauce. Granny Smith and Braeburn hold their shape and are good for pies- especially when mixed with a couple ‘sauce’ apples to melt down and fill in around the chunks or slices. Mac/Granny is my favorite pie/crisp mix.
